2022 marked 30 years since the birth of what became known as Britpop with the release of Blur's Popscene single in March 1992 closely followed by Suede's single The Drowners in May 1992. Both are widely considered to be the best early examples of the genre. The term 'Britpop' was not used however to describe such music until 1993 & over the next few years it developed into a hugely significant, musical, cultural and social phenomenon in the UK. The book's Introduction examines the cultural and social aspects of Britpop in some detail, as well as the musical ones. This superb book provides a guide to the significant Britpop artists and their recordings as well as several less well known ones. The book also has postscript sections covering the main post-Britpop bands and some subsequent Britpop revival bands as well.

Numbered, limited edition of 1,000 copies across 728 b&w pages which is profusely illustrated and also contains 16 pages of full colour illustrations. There is currently nothing similar in print like this!

Reviews:

RECORD COLLECTOR: 4/5 EVERYTHING YOU WANTED KNOW ABOUT INDIE IN THE 90s

Most readers may associate the Britpop era of the 90s with a handful of classic bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Elastica and Suede. Vernon Joynson's new tome takes the reader on a journey into every nook and cranny of the period from Saint Etienne to Soda, listing every recording as well as giving a potted history of their activities. Covering the wide variety of musical styles of the period, it's a treasure trove of facts and information that is absolutely fascinating. For example, poor old Freaks Of Desire's forward momentum included recording a track for the film Showgirls but their rise was halted by the collapse of Dave Stewart's Anxious records. This really is the bible of the era and an essential purchase.

PSYCHEDELIC BABY: ...

'The Britpop Bible' fills a void as the most comprehensive guide to a genre previously lacking an extensive reference work, providing invaluable information unavailable elsewhere. The massive opus, published by Borderline Productions, is a numbered, limited edition of 1,000 copies worldwide... As with Joynson's earlier publications 'The Britpop Bible' is an essential addition to rock music lovers and collectors' libraries.
